Press and hold the power button located directly below the center red button.
The blue light will flash once and then turn solid while the unit self-calibrates.
The LCD will also turn on for a few seconds and indicate on the top blue message bar that the unit is calibrating.
Once the unit has completed its calibration the LCD will turn on again and indicate “Calibration Completed” in the top message bar. The message bar will then display “LISTENING” to indicate the TBx2 is actively listening for lighting strikes.
The message bar will then display “LISTENING” to indicate the TBx2 is actively listening for lighting strikes.
If the message bar displays “INTERFERENCE” see Helpful operating tips below.
- To conserve battery life the unit automatically sleeps. The screen backlight will time-out after 8 seconds and go dark to conserve power. The blue LED will blink once every 8 seconds to indicate that the unit is listening.
Use the center red button to wake up the unit and check its status at any time.
If the TBx2 detects lightening, the blue light will turn solid and remain as such until the user has depressed the red center button to review the notifications.

Helpful Operating Tips
Re-calibration:
- In order to achieve the best accuracy, re-calibrate the X2 when the sensing environment is changed. Turn the X2 off and back on to re-calibrate.
For example, if you turn the unit on inside a building and then bring the unit outside, it should be re-calibrated. During the boot up/calibration process keep the X2 as still as possible so it can accurately measure the environment until the “Calibration Complete” message appears in the status bar.
“INTERFERENCE”
- “INTERFERENCE” may be displayed on the status bar. This indicates that an electrical signal may be affecting the sensitivity of the X2. To alleviate this condition, move the X2 to a location further possible interferes like cell phones, computer monitors, TVs or other electronics.
- For best performance keep other electronics and large metal objects away from the X2 while it is detecting. These objects cause noise that can affect its sensitivity.
Estimated Time to Arrival
- Estimated Time to Arrival: “ACQUIRING” will be displayed when the X2 is waiting for more lightning strikes to be detected or the lightning data has become too old for an accurate storm prediction. The displayed time is constantly updated as new strikes are detected. “LOCAL” will be displayed when the distance/time calculations give an estimate closer than 5 miles.
